Lucio Capece.
Bass Clarinet, Soprano saxophone, Mixer- Saxophone feedback.

Lucio Capece is a musician born in Argentina. He plays bass clarinet, soprano saxophone and a mixer in feedback controlled by an inside amplified saxophone.
Since being a teenager Lucio Capece was strongly affected by cinema directors and painters and visual artists like Andrei Tarkovsky, Robert Bresson, Sergei Paradjanoff,Mark Rothko, Middle age Russian Icons and László Moholy Nagy.
His research and studies have been focused in a music considered as time itself, as a portion of living time. With no end, no start, no developing. As well as an intense work into the characteristics of sound, and the perception experience.
He considers that in his person this work obtains its stronger experiences in real time composed music, so called improvised. Where the composer deals with the performing time at the performance itself ,allowing the instruments to play together with the performer, suggesting and modifying the creative situation.
Lucio Capece does not feel himself identified with an specific school.He plays at the moment mainly in improvised music projects that go from extreme reductionism to noise, not considering the amount of sound or silence as a main thing but the time experience and the perception experience as main subjects.
In terms of instrumental playing he prepares his instruments with plastic bottles, ping pong balls, water, different kind of paper, particular analog electronic setups , etc, using also personal extended techniques.His playing is strongly affected by everyday electronic and mechanical sounds.
Capece ‘ s electro acoustic set consists in a mixer in feedback modified by an inside amplified saxophone. The mixer is settled in feedback connecting inputs to outputs. This feedback is modified by another feedback produced by two small microphones introduced into the bell of the saxophone. The microphones feedback is modified changing the fingering in the saxophone, but not blowing, modifying the parameters in the mixer, and by the sound waves in the space going inside the instruments through all it ‘ s openings. And so on.

Capece started his studies as a classical guitar player getting his certificate at the public Conservatory in Argentina (10 years studies). As a saxophone and bass clarinet player he studied in Argentina mainly the John Coltrane’ s approach to jazz and classical techniques.Then he continued studying in France for 9 months with Louis Sclavis in 1997, and in New York and Chicago, in 2000, meeting several musicians related with Anthony Braxton and Julius Hemphill approach, like Marilyn Crispell, Gerry Hemingway, Tim Berne, Jim Black, or composition related to improvisation with Gene Coleman.
Since 2000 he plays mainly improvised music and composed music related to improvisation with the Q-O2 Ensemble directed by Julia Eckhardt, from Belgium
( Projects with Phill Niblock,Pauline Oliveros, Christian Wolff, Keith Rowe, Stevie Wishart, etc).
As an improviser he shares projects with Axel Dorner, Franz Hautzinger, Domenico Sciajno, Julia Eckhardt, Rhodri Davies, Robin Hayward, Sergio Merce,Yannis Kyriakide and Mattin.
He played in specific projects with Keith Rowe, Toshimaru Nakamura, Giuseppe Ielasi, Gert Ian Prins, Alessandro Bosetti, Andrea Neumann, Ignaz Shick, Sophie Agnel, Annette Krebs , Burkhard Beins , Roberto Conlazo (Reynols) and others.

He played and regularly tours in venues and festivals dedicated to improvised an new music in Europe and in Argentina.

Lucio Capece lived , worked and studied in Buenos Aires, New York, Lyon, Paris.
He lives in Paris since 2002, with periods of residence in Buenos Aires and Berlin.
